ASUS is showing off a very different product at Computex this year; it ZEUS. Its actually a concept X79 and LGA2011 based motherboard with dual GPU on-board. The upper part of the motherboard is like a normal X79 based motherboard with socket in centre and DDR3 slots at both sides but bottom part is where fun starts. ASUS has managed to put dual-GPU graphics cards solution at the place where usually PCI slots are seen.
The on-board dual GPU solution is directly connected to processor with two PCI Express 3.0 x16 links. Each GPU has its own VRM and memory chips. One 8-pin and one 6-pin PCI Express power connector provides power to each GPU. ASUS didnt mention that which GPU they are using but since they are stating them as PCI Express 3.0 complaint GPUs which obviously means that these are from AMD because NVIDIA’s latest GPUs don’t recognize X79 as PCI Express 3.0 complaint. For display connectivity, ASUS ZEUS has mini-DP, standard DP, HDMI and Thunderbolt.
ASUS ZEUS is a concept product to show off ASUS’s engineering capabilities; it’ll never make its way to retail market.
