The Moto G from Motorola is without a doubt one of the best Android smartphones to have released in the past 12 months. The phone practically redefined the budget market, setting a bar so high up for phones within the same price range that to this day no other OEM has come close offering what the Moto G does. It’s such a good phone that following it up with a successor is a tall order even for Motorola. But eventually they will have to come up with a successor, and today we get a sneak peak at what it will look like.
Pictured above is this alleged successor to the Moto G. If it looks familiar to another phone from Motorola to you then you’re right, it does. There are definite design cues taken from the recently released Moto E. The front facing speaker grills, for example, were seen on the Moto E, which was released after the Moto G. The picture doesn’t really tell us much else about the physical design of the phone. Being a phone targeted at the budget crowd, we’re not expecting anything too flashy.
On the specs front the phone is reportedly going to be pretty much identical to the current Moto G. You’ll get a Snapdragon 400 chipset with 1GB RAM and a 720p display, which by the way are identical specs to the HTC One Mini 2. The only improvement made here from the predecessor is on the camera, which will be bumped to 8MP. Hopefully it will perform better than the dreadful 5MP camera on the Moto G.
There is currently no information on the release date or price of the new Moto G. We don’t expect it to be anytime soon considering it hasn’t even been 12 months since the release of the current Moto G.
