AMD has been struggling keeping up with the competition ever since NVIDIA launched their new GeForce GTX 980 and GTX 970 graphics cards. The biggest blow was served to AMD’s top of the line Radeon R9 295X2 dual GPU graphics card which was initially launched at £1200 in April 2014. It held a strong position against NVIDIA’s dual GPU solution however its foothold weekend with the launched of GTX 900 series graphics cards. The red team, in order to keep up with the competition, dropped the price of Radeon R9 295X2 to £700 in September. That was already a big price drop however it did not end there.
AMD has further dropped the price of Radeon R9 295X2 to £500 in UK. They claim that this price drop is from promotional period only however we hardly see prices going up once they go down especially when the graphics card is several months old. Furthermore, the Radeon R9 295X2 is hard to find right now. Its back-ordered on most stores however you can put in an order at Scan as they are expected to restock it in a few days.
All in all, for £500 the R9 295X2 is a great deal as it can run all games at high resolutions (even at 4K) with very smooth frame rates.
