After several successful years of DirectCU II cooling solution, ASUS has now launched the DirectCU III. A slightly modified version of this new cooling solution was showed at Computer 2015 on a GeForce GTX 980 but now ASUS has released the GeForce GTX 960 which comes with the standard DirectCU III cooling solution.
The new DirectCU III does not bring any radical changed to the fundamental design but ASUS has improved some aspects to improve its efficiency. The cooling solution consists of a central heatsink which is directly connected to the GPU. It has two aluminium fin stacks on either side which transfer heat from heatsink base using three 8mm thick copper heatpipes. ASUS is using direct contact heatsink base. On top of this arrangement, there are three 80mm temperature controlled fans.
We’ll get to see the DirectCU III cooling solution on several upcoming performance segments graphics cards. Currently, it’s being released with the GeForce GTX 960 which comes with 1228 MHz base clock, 1291 MHz GPU boost and 7 GHz memory slock. This card is currently available in China only.
