There was a time when Apple’s laptops were the best in the industry and none of the others were even close but times have changed now. At an event at Computex 2016 in Taipei, ASUS just unveiled their ZenBook 3 laptop which is slimmer and lighter than Apple’s new 2016 MacBook and on the other hand, faster than the MacBook Air.
The 11.9 mm device is being dubbed as “the world’s most prestigious laptop” by ASUS and they are right to say so. It comes with an aerospace-grade Aluminium unibody chassis which is 50% stronger than the traditional metal. In terms of size and weight, the ZenBook 3 is only 11.9 mm thick and weights 910 g whereas the 2016 MacBook is 13.1 mm thick and weighs 920 g. The MacBook Air follows with a distant 17 mm thickness and 1,350 g weight. To put things into perspective, the original iPhone was about the same thickness as the ZenBook 3.
With the slimmer and lighter design, ASUS isn’t skimping on computing power and features. The ZenBook 3 features a 12.5-inch display with Gorilla Glass 4 coating, a glass covered touchpad, a full-size keyboard with twice the key travel of MacBook and a fingerprint scanner with Windows Hello support. The only part where it is same as the MacBook is port, it comes with a charging port, headphone jack and a USB-C port.
In terms of battery, it comes with 9 hour battery life with fast charging features which gets you 60% of juice in only 49 minutes.
It starts at $999 with a Core i5 processor, 4GB of DDR3 RAM and 256 GB SSD. For $1,499, you can get a Core i7 processor, 16GB of RAM and 512 GB of SSD. There is also an option with 1 TB of SSD which is priced at $1,999. It will be available later this year in three colors – Royal Blue, Quartz Grey and Rose Gold.
