Air cooling market has been severely suffering with the launch of all-in-one liquid coolers like Corsair Hydro series or NZXT Kraken series. These liquid coolers offer very good performance with lower noise levels as compared to the high-end air coolers and that too for a similar price. Furthermore, I think we’ve reached the point where air coolers cannot get any more radical changes that will stir the cooling world. It’s the same basic design over and over again with similar performance and similar set of features.
Few weeks ago, when be quiet! contacted me and they asked me to review their products I got pretty excited, even though I haven’t heard of their name before. I went through their product stack and it looked pretty promising. Later that day, while discussing be quiet! with a friend I got to know that it is a German brand. Germans are known to not cheap out on quality and I am a big sucker for quality products so this was enough for me to check what be quiet! is all about.
So here is the first of the many be quiet! products that we will be reviewing in coming weeks. It’s their Dark Rock Pro 2 CPU cooler from their high-end Dark Pro lineup. It’s their first cooler to employ the dual-tower design as the Noctua NH-D14 or Thermalright Silver Arrow. Main focus of the Dark Rock Pro 2 is to provide solid cooling performance while keeping the noise at minimum levels. To achieve this, the cooler has been equipped with two fans; a 120mm and a 135mm. Both make use of the SilentWings and PWM technology to optimize air flow and to avoid noise generating turbulence.
