With high performance computing devices penetrating into our everyday life, everyone seems to be concerned about the noise output of these devices. And consumer’s concern lead manufacturers back to the drawing table and they started thinking ways to make their products more silent. In graphics card industry, low noise levels are usually achieved by using advanced motor technologies, innovative fan designs or simply by increasing the size of area dissipating the heat.
We recorded noise output of each graphics card during 20 minutes game play of Sniper Elite, Battlefield 3, Far Cry 3 and Metro 2033. Ambient noise level during testing was 24 dBA. One thing that is worth mentioning is that dBA scale is not linear, it’s logarithmic. It means that 30 dBA of noise is not twice as loud at 15 dBA of noise. It is generally believed that with every 10 dBA of increment in noise level, the loudness gets double.
