DDR4 memory is the next big thing and it’ll be effectively replacing the current DDR3 memory as it launches on August 25, 2014. Even though the official launch is a few days away, it has not stopped memory manufacturers to show of their new DDR4 based memory kits and some of them have even put up their kits for pre-order. G.Skill, following others, revealed their Ripjaws IV DDR4 memory kits and they’ve even gone up for pre-order.
Prior to this, we’ve seen DDR4 memory kits from ADATA, Avexir along with Corsair and all of them can be pre-ordered and now G.Skill is following the suit as well. The Ripjaws IV come with a completely redesigned heatsink which is quite similar to the heatsink that we saw on the RipjawsZ. It still features a fairly low profile design which should make it suitable for usage with big air coolers. As always, the Ripjaws IV memory kits are available in red, blue and black colors. Furthermore, I am pleased to see that G.Skill is offering these kits with matte black PCB. I’ve seen several high-end G.Skill memory kits in the past which come with a dashing heatsink but a green PCB which is kind of a big turn off in when it comes to aesthetics.
The G.Skill Ripjaws IV is listed on Overclockers UK in quad channel kits of 16GB and 32GB capacity with speeds ranging from 2400 MHz to 3000 MHz (however the 32GB capacity only goes up to 2666 MHz). These have a slightly higher voltage of 1.35v as compared to 1.2v on standard DDR4 kits. Furthermore, the timings are also slightly high at 15-15-15-35.

All these Ripjaws IV memory kits are not available for pre-order on Overclockers UK. The prices are definitely high compared to DDR3 but obvious considering its a new technology. However, prices will go down as DDR4 goes mainstream. DDR4 kits will be compatible with upcoming Intel Haswell-E and X99 platform which will be launching on August 29, 2014.
