Specialized motherboards have been a regular affair since last few generations of Intel platforms. And apparently, these motherboards are seeing good sales as manufacturers have started spreading these specialized series among different price points. GIGABYTE started their LGA1150 motherboard stack with three gaming oriented motherboards; the $400 G1.Sniper 5, the $205 G1.Sniper M5 and the cheapest G1.Sniper B5 featuring the B85 chipset with no overclocking abilities. However, now they are adding the new G1.Sniper Z87 motherboard at the $170 price point. This is a full ATX motherboard as compared to the G1.Sniper M5 which is an mATX board and it’ll go against the ASUS ROG Maximus VI Hero, ASRock Z87 Fatal1ty Professional and MSI Z87 MPower which are all ATX and go for around $200.
The new G1.Sniper Z87, despite being cheaper, comes with all the ‘most wanted’ features like overclocking support, multi GPU support and other proprietary GIGABYTE features. As the other gaming motherboards from GIGABYTE, the audio capabilities of the G1.Sniper Z87 are a highlight. It comes with Creative Sound Core3D audio codec paired with Nichicon Pro Audio Caps, an upgradable OP-AMP system, separation of digital and analog audio signals on the PCB, gold plated audio connectors and a dedicated gold plated USB DAC-UP port on the rear IO designed to provide a clean, low-noise power to USB DAC systems. Furthermore, like external DACs it also has direct gain switch for high impedance headphones. You can choose between 2.5x or 6x sound amplifications modes.
Apart from that, it has all the usual stuff like USB 3.0, SATA III, on-board power button and debug LED along with Killer E2200 NIC for online gaming. The GIGABYTE G1.Sniper Z87 should hit retailers soon with a price tag of around $170.
