HP has finally introduced the long awaited gaming notebook, Omen. Ever since the takeover of Voodoo, all of us were waiting for a classy gaming notebook by HP and it has taken them 10 years to bring one. The Omen is not just any gaming laptop with the likes of ASUS, MSI and GIGABYTE instead its something that is comparable with the much appreciated Razer Blade. Its slim, thin and packs powerful hardware at a more reasonable price.
“Gamers play to win and expect their PCs to do the same,” said Mike Nash, vice president, Product Management, Consumer Personal Systems, HP. “The HP OMEN delivers the power to dominate with a stunning design to give gamers the ultimate gaming experience.”
HP Omen features Intel Core i7, NVIDIA GTX 860M & 15.6″ 1080p Display
HP has attracted a lot of media attention especially after the announcement of Sprout which uses a projector instead of keyboard and mouse. Today, the Omen takes the headline with its sleek design and stunning attention to detail. Razer Blade no doubt still holds the crown of having the best aesthetics and relatively similarly specs but the price gives HP Omen a plus point.
HP Omen features an Intel Core i7-4710HQ quad-core processor coupled with NVIDIA’s GeForce GTX 860M graphics and a single SSD. The key here is to find the balance between hardware and optimal frame rates resulting in a 15.6″ 1080p touch-enabled display instead of QHD or 3K displays in newer laptops. HP believes that GTX 860M will deliver a better gaming experience at 1080p rather than on a higher res display.
Further specifications include a 128 GB SSD for the base model which can be upgraded for extra money as well as 8 GB DDR3 memory. HP’s partnership has allowed the company to put in Beats Audio dual front-facing speakers. The Omen comes with a gaming keyboard featuring customizable RGB lightning, six programmable macro keys and optimized key strokes for gaming.
Interms of I/O, Omen consists of four USB 3.0 ports, one mini-DisplayPort v1.2, HDMI 1.4a port and a headphone and mic combo stereo jack. The laptop comes with HP’s TrueVision Full HD webcam and dual array digital microphones. HP Omen runs Windows 8.1 which will make the best use of the touch IPS display.
Customers will have plenty of hardware options before making the purchase. The base model comes with 8 GB memory, 128 GB PCIe SSD and 2 GB GTX 860M graphics for $1,499. For an additional $100, the 128 GB SSD will be swapped for a 256 GB SSD and for an additional $200 you will get a 256 GB SSD as well as the 4 GB variant of GTX 860M. Other options, include upgrade to 16 GB DDR3 memory and 512 GB PCIe SSD.
HP also introduced some accessories to compliment the notebook. For $59.99 you can get HP’s X9000 gaming mouse and for $79.99 you can get HP’s Gaming Backpack for your Omen. For more information, please visit the product page.
