Huawei releases waterproof Honor 3 for Chinese market

Huawei is a name you’ll be hearing of more and more as time goes on. Once a small force in the smartphone industry, Huawei has grown considerably by offering high end Android smartphones at an affordable rate. Today they’ve announced yet another Android smartphone called Honor 3. The phone is for the Chinese market, which is Huawei’s homeland.

The highlight of Honor 3 is that it is waterproof. It is IP57-certified which means it can be submerged into 1 meter deep water for up to 30 minutes. Waterproof phones have been slowing gaining in popularity recently with Sony fully on board the bandwagon. Sensing a demand for this particular Huawei has released the Honor 3. However the waterproofness isn’t the only selling point here. The phone itself is a high end Android device. It comes with a 4.7-inch IPS LCD screen with 720p resolution. It is powered by Huawei’s homebrewed K3V2E chipset with a quad-core 1.5GHz processor and 2GB of RAM.

On the back of the phone is a 13MP camera and on the front a 1.3MP unit. The 8GB internal storage can be expanded via microSD card. The phone comes with Android 4.2.2 with Huawei’s custom UI called Emotion UI. The phone is available for purchase and costs CNY1,888, which equals about €235 or $310.
