Intel is preparing to launch LGA 2011-3 socket HEDT processors in a few months time. While deep pocket consumers are anxiously waiting for Haswell-E at the same time server PC users are also waiting for Xeon E5-2600 v3 CPUs. Intel Xeon E5-2600 v3 processors will make use of LGA 2011-3 socket and feature up to 18 cores and 45 MB L3 cache. The new server SKUs will also support quad-channel DDR4 memory. Xeon E5-2600 v3 SKUs are not backwards compatible with LGA2011 socket.
Intel Xeon E5-2600 v3 Details
Intel Xeon E5-2600 v3 processors will be based on 22 nm manufacturing process and will not be compatible with last gen LGA2011 socket. The new CPUs will be compatible with only C610 chipset which will be released along side the SKUs. Xeon E5-2600 v3 is scheduled for release in Q3 2014 featuring up to 10 more cores compared to Haswell-E HEDT CPUs for consumers.
The flagship model Xeon E5-2699 v3 will feature 18 cores and 36 threads, 45 MB L3 cache and quad-channel DDR4 2133 MHz support. Other models in the new series will feature 12 and 8 cores along with two QPI bus PCIe 3.0 controllers. Below is the table showing the model numbers and Intel Ordering codes:
|Processor Model||Product Code||S-Spec||MM#|
Complete specifications of Xeon E5-2600 v3 are not yet released but the flagship E5-2699 v3 will have a base frequency of 2.3 GHz and 145 W TDP. You can get your hands on the ES sample of the 8 core model E5-2690 v3 as it is being sold on the Chinese website Taobao for ¥5999 approximately $964. The sample being sold features 8 cores and 16 threads along with 35 MB L3 cache clocked at 2.9 GHz. Obviously you will need a C610 chipset motherboard as well to run the CPU.
