It has been an interesting summer with numerous leaks surrounding Intel’s latest Haswell-E and Haswell-EP platforms. In July, we revealed the complete line up of the upcoming Haswell-EP Xeon E5-2600 v3 CPUs with their respective prices. Since then our concentration has diverted to Haswell-E HEDT CPUs for consumers but today we have secured some more interesting information on Haswell-EP server CPUs. The flagship Xeon E5-2699 v3 processor’s engineering sample is available for purchase in China for ¥14,800 ($2408). It looks like someone got their hands on a whole tray of Xeon E5-2699 v3 ES and before putting them on sale he ran some tests on Cinebench.
Intel Xeon E5-2699 v3 ES up for sale in China
It looks our source who provided us with the details of the complete line up is the man behind this sale because he has uploaded the same BIOS screenshot that we revealed last month. Though it seems like the tester has done something wrong in Cinebench R11.5 because the software only shows 16 cores and 32 threads where as it should show 36 cores and 72 threads. It might be possible that due to the incompatibility of the CPU, it is not being recognized correctly.
Intel Xeon E5-2699 v3 comes from the Grantley-EP platform with Haswell-EP CPU Cores. It features 18 cores with 72 threads clocked at 2.3 GHz. The CPU is only compatible with the new LGA 2011-3 socket and supports DDR4 memory. It is compatible with the new “Wellsburg” X99 chipset. As revealed in the Xeon E5-2699 v3 ES’s BIOS screenshot, the CPU comes with 45 MB L3 cache and supports Intel’s Hyper Threading technology along with dual CPU configurations.
Moving on to the Cinebench scores, Xeon E5-2699 v3 ES scores 4542 points almost double compared to Xeon E5-2697 v2 Ivy Bridge-EP CPU. Xeon E5-2697 v2 scores roughly 2927 points in Cinebench R15. The high performance is certainly helped by the 18 cores of Xeon E5-2699 v3 ES. As I have previously stated that there is something wrong with Cinebnech R11.5 scores because Xeon E5-2697 v2 scores approximately 33 points while Xeon E5-2699 v3 has scored only 25.82 points as seen in the image below.
The Xeon E5-2699 v3 is expected to launch in the first week of September 2014. If anyone of you is craving the early adoption of this powerhouse then you can get your hands on one for ¥14,800 ($2408) from the Chinese retailer Taobao.
