As it has always been the case, the upcoming iPhone has begun to get everyone excited in the smartphone world. This year will see Apple unveiling the all new iPhone 6, which will almost certainly come with a much larger display. We have seen dummies and early production units of the iPhone 6 leaked, giving us a good idea of what to expect as far as shape, design and size is concerned. Today another video showing the iPhone 6 has surfaced. It shows the front panel of the phone, which will be made out of sapphire crystal for added durability. Lets take a look at what it is all about.
The panel shown above is from an iPhone 6 with a 4.7-inch display. There have been rumours about Apple releasing two versions of the iPhone 6, one with a 4.7-inch display and one with a 5.5-inch display. We can safely say that the 4.7-inch version is now pretty much confirmed. The panel shown above lines up exactly with the iPhone 6 video that was posted a few weeks ago, so as far as the design of the front of the iPhone 6 is concerned, we now have a good idea of what to expect.
Now onto the more important part. The front of the iPhone 6 will be protected by sapphire crystal. Usually phones use Gorilla Glass, but sapphire crystal is just a lot more durable and a higher quality material. Apple already uses sapphire crystal on the lens cover and home button of the iPhone 5S. You can see in the video how the panel was tortured with a knife and key and came out without even a hint of a scratch. A lot of force was applied to it to see how far it goes before snapping in half. Turns out snapping it is an almost impossible task.
Durability has been somewhat of a question mark for the iPhone over the past few years. It looks as if Apple is taking it seriously for the sixth version of the phone. How it will turn out in the actual phone is something we will have to wait to check out. But for now we’re happy with what we’re seeing.
