If you’re rocking an Android phone other than a Nexus, chances are you often ask yourself when your phone will receive the next OS update. Phones from HTC, Samsung, LG, Sony or pretty much any other OEM are usually late to receive software updates since they run their own custom UIs on top of Android. Manufacturers too are usually very vague in giving specific timeframes, or whether a phone will receive an update to begin with. This makes leaked roadmaps for firmware updates all the more exciting, because they give a pretty good idea of how much update love a said phone is set to receive. Today such a roadmap regarding HTC phones has been leaked.
The leaked roadmap above comes courtesy of LlabTooFeR and it details which phones from HTC will receive what update. From the table it can immediately be seen that the One M8 will receive all the important updates, which isn’t surprising for a current flagship. It will be getting the Android 4.4.4 update in July/August. The same update will make its way to One M7, One M8 Ace, One Mini 2 and One M8 Dual Sim in September. For some reason the dual SIM version of M7 will not receive this update. The older One Mini is all set to receive the Sense 6 update in July.
If you were hoping for some dirt on the Android L update then you’d be disappointed with the roadmap. All it says is that if the update will be seeded for a phone, it will be by the end of this year. HTC has not yet decided which phones will receive this coveted update. We can however assume that the One M8, along with its GPE will receive the Android L update. There’s a good chance that One M7 will also receive the said update.
