Google’s upcoming Nexus 5 phone has been in the rumor spotlight for quite a while now but it seems like everyone has been naming it wrong. The upcoming Google phone might not be called Nexus 5 but actually it is Nexus 4 2013 edition and this has come up after screenshots of Android 4.4 KitKat leaked earlier today. The leaked screenshots were supposed to be from a Nexus 4 (2012 edition) because that was the model number shown in the shots but TuttoAndroid have noticed that the build number doesn’t carry the codename of the Nexus 4 (2012) i.e. Mako. Instead, it has a new codename “Hammerhead” which points to the fact that its a new device. Google has been changing the codename ever since the Nexus One was launched.
Now that we look at Google’s naming scheme for their Nexus 7 tablet the new Nexus 4 (2013) name really makes sense. The tablet initially launched in 2012 was simply called Nexus 7 and now the highly updated version launched this year is called Nexus 7 (2013) so Google might actually be following the same naming scheme which means the next phone is actually Nexus 4 (2013).
