Its an exciting week for PC enthusiasts since NVIDIA will be launching its latest GTX 700 series graphics card. GeForce GTX 780 benchmarks were leaked last week and today ChipHell forums have done it again by leaking GeForce GTX 770 benchmarks a week before its launch on May 31st, 2013.
GeForce GTX 770 is based on GK104-425-A2 GPU with 1536 CUDA cores, 32 ROPs and 128 TMUs. It consists of 2 GB GDDR5 memory with 256-bit memory interface. It will replace the current flagship GPU GTX 680. According to leaked specifications, reference models will feature a core clock of 1059 MHz, Boost Clock of 1076 MHz and 7 GHz memory clock effectively. It is supposedly 7-10% faster than GTX 680 which we can now figure out using the leaked benchmarks. Some pictures of the GPU were also leaked earlier which showed that it will be equipped with the same cooler as the GTX TITAN but not all manufacturers are fond of it. Some manufacturers are opting for the more expensive GTX TITAN’s cooler while others are trying to keep the costs low and using the same plastic shroud reference cooler of the GTX 680.
The only custom variant of GTX 770 to be seen is MSI GTX 770 Lightning which features in-house Twin Frozr IV cooler and an additional GPU module. The user who leaked the benchmarks states that GTX 680 makes use of of HY ROC particles which limited the memory overclock to 7.2 GHz max but the GTX 770 makes use of HY R2C particles which allows memory to be clocked at 7 GHz out of the box and has the potential of reaching 8 GHz on air. The retail version of the card tested by user is based on the reference PCB but with a triple fan cooler. According to the pictures, its our guess that the card tested is the Gigabyte variant with WindForce 3x cooling solution but we might be wrong.
3DMark FireStrike (Extreme):
- NVIDIA GeForce GTX 770: 3535 Marks
- NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680: 3150 Marks
3DMark FireStrike (Performance):
- NVIDIA GeForce GTX 770: 7078 Marks
- NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680: 6331 Marks
3DMark 11 (Extreme):
- NVIDIA GeForce GTX 770: 3840 Marks
- NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680: 3411 Marks
3DMark 11 (Performance):
- NVIDIA GeForce GTX 770: 10693 Marks
- NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680: 09777 Marks
The results conclude that GTX 770 on average 10% faster than GTX 680 and the gap will further increase with factory overclocked variants with higher clocks. The tests didn’t include any AMD Radeon HD 7xxx series GPUs so its not possible to compare the cards at this moment.
