Official NVIDIA GeForce GTX 770 performance slides leak

Its been four days since the launch of NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780 graphics card. Although, its the attention grabber due to being the flagship GPU in the GTX 700 series but many hardware enthusiasts are distracted by GTX 770 which is scheduled for launch within this week. 20+ variants of GTX 780 were released on the launch date and we are expecting the same number of variants to be released for GTX 770 as well. Today, official NVIDIA GeForce GTX 770 performance has been leaked, taking the mid-range crown back from Radeon HD 7970 GHz graphics card.

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 770 packs a GK104-425-A2 chip with 1536 CUDA cores, 32 ROPs and 128 TMUs. It features a 2 GB GDDR5 memory with a 256-bit memory interface, custom variants from different manufacturers will also offer 4 GB versions but the memory interface will remain unchanged resulting in a bottleneck at higher resolutions. Moving on to the clock speeds, GTX 770 performs at 1045/1086/7010 MHz for GPU/Boost/Memory effectively. The clock speeds are faster than GTX 680 which makes it perform better even though its based on the same chip. The GPU comes with 224 GB/s memory bandwidth which is 32 GB/s more than the current GTX 670, but GTX 770 is set to replace the flagship GTX 680. NVIDIA is advertising the card as a replacement for the  GTX 570 since it performs 65% faster than the Fermi based card.

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 770 Performance

Moving on to the performance, the test bed consisted of an Intel Core i7-3960X, a 1600p monitor and all settings set to High with Anti-Aliasing turned off.According to the charts, GTX 770 outperforms HD 7970 GHz in all NVIDIA optimized games by approximately 25%. Performance increase in AMD optimized games is almost negligible and HD 7970 GHz can easily take the lead with a slight overclock.

To measure the SLI scaling, NVIDIA used Frame Capture Analysis Tool (FCAT), as we already know that SLI scaling with two GPUs has improved a lot and the chart shows exactly that. GTX 770 in SLI performs almost twice as fast as the single GTX 770. VideoCardz made a more realistic chart with testing done at both 1080p and 1600p resolutions. Due to GTX 770’s 2 GB GDDR5 memory it will not be able to process High-Res textures at higher resolutions as efficiently as GTX 780 and HD 7970 GHz.

GeForce GTX 770 is overall 9% faster than HD 7970 GHz edition by taking the average of both resolutions while its 16% slower than GTX 780. Its understandable since GTX 780 is based on a completely new GK110 chip which is faster than GK104 even with some SMX units disabled. Considering the fact that GTX 770 will be priced on par or higher than HD 7970 GHz GPU, its not going to be easy to grab the market since it packs lesser memory than HD 7970 GHz and also the performance increase is not that big.

The plus points of buying the GTX 770 are GPU Boost 2.0 and the amazing GTX TITAN GPU cooler but its worth noting that not all manufacturers will be opting for this solution since its expensive and custom GPU coolers perform much better. Overclocking potential of the card is not yet known but if it overclocks beyond 1150 MHz mark than its worth trying.
