NVIDIA launched their top-end GeForce GTX Titan Z earlier this year. It was their most expensive graphics card ever at $3000. That price is outrageous for gamers by any standard however the GTX Titan Z was not really made for gamers. NVIDIA’s actual market for this beast was CUDA developers who could use the horsepower. However, being a GeForce GTX series graphics card, it was often weighed in the gamer’s scale where the $1500 AMD Radeon R9 295X2 was a much better choice.
In order to make this favorable, NVIDIA recently dropped the price by 38% to around $1800. AMD followed the suite and dropped the price of their R9 295X2 to $999 which again put the GTX Titan Z in an odd position. Furthermore, NVIDIA’s price drop was only limited to OEMs however AMD played big and dropped prices on retailers as well. Now, NVIDIA has taken another step and dropped the price of GTX Titan Z to $1500. This time the price drop is also making its way to retailers. It’s already listed for the new price on Amazon and Newegg.
Even at the dropped price of $1500, the GTX Titan Z is still not very attractive for gamers especially after the release of GTX 980 and GTX 970 which offers more or less similar performance for a significantly cheaper price. However, now its a highly suitable option for CUDA developers who will get performance of two GTX Titan Black which cost $1100 each.
