PTCL’s CEO Daniel Ritz has just announced new broadband packages and company’s future plans about fiber internet, in a interview with ProPakistani. Ritz laid out the plans of massive network upgradation which will transform the internet connectivity for PTCL users. Company will be investing over Rs. 27 billion is next two and a half years to upgrade its network.
“We are upgrading our network with future-proof technology and replacing the under-ground cable with fiber and rehabilitating or laying new copper network as and where required “, he said.
PTCL has currently selected about 100 exchanges for the first phase of upgradation which will cover about 50% of its total user base. Once the upgradation is done, copper customers will be able to enjoy speeds of up to 20Mbps. Additionally, PTCL is also laying out fiber network which will enable speeds of up to 50Mbps and 100Mbps.
According to our information, the prices for 50Mbps and 100 Mbps connections are as following:
- 50Mbps: Rs. 3,999
- 100Mbps: Rs. 4,799
These packages are not currently available to all customers but only to those who reside in the areas controlled by the exchanges that have already been upgraded in some major cities like Lahore, Gujranwala, Multan and Peshawar.
The 50Mbps and 100Mbps packages were previously available as well in some areas but on very high prices i.e. Rs. 10,000+ and only to corporate customers.
This is a very welcome news considering PTCL is the biggest telecommunications company in Pakistan and their push towards faster internet will benefit vastly benefit online business as well as country’s economy. Furthermore, it will also give a fierce competition to FTTH providers currently operating in the country like FiberLink, StormFiber etc.
