The CPU air cooling market has been on the hibernation mode for a while now but recently all the major players have come forward with their flagship offerings which has again heated the battlefield. A couple of months ago we reviewed the much awaited Noctua NH-D15 which did not fail to impress us and now we have the be quiet! Dark Rock Pro 3 which is company’s flagship offering.
We reviewed their previous flagship model, the Dark Rock Pro 2 almost one year ago and it was a top scorer back then but a lot has been between then and now. As mentioned, Noctua has some up with a new flagship and there is a new comer, Phanteks, around the block which is also making some strides with their PH-TC14PE.
The new Dark Rock Pro 3 from be Quiet! Is also not so new anymore. It’s been almost 6 months now since it hit the market but the company has not come up with its predecessor yet. As the other top end air cooler, the Dark Rock Pro 3 embraces the dual tower design as its predecessor did. However, be Quiet! Is made it lighter and slightly smaller to make it more accessible especially for people having space issues inside the system. With that said, the Dark Rock Pro 3 is still one the huge coolers which can even cover up all the memory slots.
The main structure of the cooler has not changed much. It still has seven 6mm heatpipes along with two fans. One of them is 120mm while the other one is 135mm and both of these feature be Quiet’s SilentWings design which optimizes the air flow. Along with good performance, be quiet! also promises high quality and silent operation.
Let’s have a quick look at the specifications of the cooler before we jump into a detailed review.
