AMD has reportedly delayed the launch of Radeon R9 290 to Tuesday, November 5, 2013. It was initially expected to debut on Oct 31 (tomorrow) however the drivers team developed a new set of drivers which boost its performance significantly. So AMD has provided reviewers with these new drivers and instructed them to do all the testing from scratch. Hence, the embargo date has been extended.
The reviewers were provided with the R9 290 in the start of previous week along with the R9 290X. Almost all the reviewers, we’ve talked with, were already done with their reviews however now they are back to testing.
This might come as a bad news for some people but the exciting bit about the delay (apart from that fact that R9 290 will be a bit more faster now) is that these drivers might also increase the performance of R9 290X which already beats GTX 780 and GTX Titan. We should expect performance numbers of R9 290X with new drivers in the R9 290 reviews so now we’ve one more reason to be waiting for Nov. 5.
