Razer is one of the few companies in computer hardware industry that people are very enthusiastic about. It is often regarded as the ‘Apple’ of the PC gaming industry. Their product usually have extreme level of detail in terms of design even they are often bashed for the durability of their products. Anyway, people have been asking Razer since quite a while now to make complete gaming PCs or at-least PC cases. They have finally listened to people and they are jumping into the PC case business but in a very different way.
Razer has announced a licensing program for PC cases. This program includes a few selected vendors whose products will be tested and vetted by Razer’s design and engineering teams and the cases that pass this test will bear the “Designed by Razer” tag. Naturally, these will also come with Razer’s branding.
“We have some of the world’s best designers and engineers working at Razer and we fully believe in advancing the industry no matter the cost, so it makes sense for us to share this knowledge with other manufacturers in our industry,” says Min-Liang Tan, Razer co-founder, CEO and creative director. “It’s our goal to service the needs of the hundreds of millions of gamers worldwide and a custom Razer PC case has been sought after for some time. The NZXT H440 – Designed by Razer is the first success with this program and we expect there to be many more.”
The first case that is selected for this program is NZXT’s H440. It’s exactly the same case which NZXT launched earlier this year but the “Designed by Razer” edition comes with Razer’s branding along with green neon glow at bottom. It also has glowing Razer logo’s at front and side. The top USB 3.0 ports have also gotten the Razer treatment.
Razer has not really detailed that what tests the case have to go through to be licensed however we believe that the design and engineering team of Razer probably looks at the quality, design and features of the case along with its versatility in terms of what hardware it can house.
The new NZXT H440 “Designed by Razer” version will hit shelves next month and will be sold by NZXT for $149. That’s $10 higher than the original H440 which actually goes for around $120 instead of its MSRP of $139. Despite the price, die-hard Razer fans will be buying this case in a heartbeat.
