MacBook Air with retina display is imminent; it’s surely coming one day. It was actually expected when Apple refreshed the MacBook Air with Haswell CPUs back in June, 2013 but that obviously did not happen. However, rumors of a retina MacBook Air are getting stronger and stronger this year. DigiTimes have published a latest report citing the supply chain makers which raises some concerns about the decrease in the shipments of MacBook in 2014 as compared to 2013.
However, the report also says that the discrepancies in the shipment estimates might be due to some product refresh that is expected later this year. To be exact, this product refresh might be the new MacBook Air with retina display. Furthermore, there are also some reports that Apple will be launching a 12-inch MacBook later this year. This will be based on a new design with improved trackpad and no cooling fans.
Whether this rumor is true or not but Apple really needs to put retina display in the MacBook Air this year otherwise they will be left far behind the competitors in PC space which are almost same in size and weight as the Air but they have as high as 3200 x 1800 resolution displays.
The report also claims that Apple is also expected to launch a bigger iPad, possibly a 12-inch one, later this year. DigiTimes have a mixed record when it comes to accuracy so we would not really vouch for the authenticity of this report.
