Android Wear is one of the most exciting things to have happened to wearables for a long time. Where manufacturers were previously throwing stuff at the wall hoping something would stick, Google is now trying to bring it all under one umbrella. A single OS that powers the most popular smartwatches. So far we have seen LG and Motorola announce their plans to release an Android Wear powered smartwatch. But now another giant has joined the race; Samsung. According to reports, Samsung will announce a smartwatch running Android Wear at Google I/O.
There is no information available on details of this watch from Samsung. The company has already released two Galaxy branded watches this year which received lukewarm response. The issue that has plagued Galaxy watches is the less than stellar software that powers it. Android Wear may be the break Samsung needs to crack this market. However it will face stiff competition from the Moto 360, a watch that has gained many fans without having been spotted by anyone in real life.
It will be interesting to see how this watch from Samsung compares to its Tizen watches. It was only a few weeks ago when the company updated its older Galaxy Gear to Tizen. However if there is anything we have learnt about Samsung, it’s that they are not afraid to experiment.
