We have been hearing about the Galaxy S5 Mini for a while now. The miniature version of the Galaxy S5 has been making rounds of the rumourland for a while now. This year we have already seen two high end compact phones released. They are the HTC One Mini 2 and the Xperia Z Compact. Can Samsung up the ante with the Galaxy S5 Mini or will it be just another low end mini phone that we have come to expect from the Korean giant? Depending on your requirements, you could be rooting for either one of these possibilities. Lets take a look at what market the Galaxy S5 Mini aims to target.
The Galaxy S5 Mini comes with a 4.5-inch AMOLED screen with 720p resolution. It is powered by an unknown chipset with four Cortex-A7 cores clocked at 1.4GHz. The RAM quantity remains at 1.5GB from last year. On the back is a 8MP camera with flash and on the front is a 2MP shooter. Internal storage is limited to 16GB with support for microSD card expansion. The 2100mAh battery is removable.
Physically the Galaxy S5 Mini looks identical to the Galaxy S5 with its dimpled back. The phone is IP67 rated which means it can handle a certain amount of dust and water. Interestingly enough the fingerprint and heart rate sensors are also included. The phone will come with Android 4.4 out of the box with Samsung specific features such as S Health, Private mode, Kids mode and Ultra Power Saving mode.
The phone will be available in four colour options:Charcoal Black, Shimmery White, Electric Blue and Copper Gold. It will begin rolling out in Russia this month. Pricing and availability for other regions is not known at this moment.
