Closer Look at the Headset:
Sennheiser G4ME ONE is not the best looking headset available at the moment but it’s certainly not the ugliest. Compromises are made on the visual appeal in order to provide the ultimate gaming experience. Unfortunately, G4ME ONE does not come with any accessories but they can be purchased separately. This is bad news for Xbox One owners because they will need to buy Xbox One Stereo Adapter and Sennheiser’s PCV 05 combo adapter to use G4ME ONE. PlayStation 4 users just need to buy the combo adapter to enhance their gaming experience.
Our sample of G4ME ONE comes in milky white with black and red touches on both interior and exterior. The first thing you notice is the big microphone on the left ear cup which is rotatable and has a built-in on/off switch in the rotation. When you glide it down, you will hear a click which un-mutes the microphone and vice versa.
Leather padding is quite popular these days as we have seen in Sennheiser Momentum as well as Razer Adaro DJ but G4ME ONE is different. It comes with soft foam padding with velvet type cloth material covering it. To be honest, this type of padding feels more comfortable compared to leather padding. Leather padding also increases heat build-up which is quite annoying.
The adjustable head band is quite simple and colored all black; no matter what color is your G4ME ONE. It has the company name printed on the left corner and foam padding at the bottom. Sliding it up and down adjusts the height but if you rest it on the table you will notice that the ear cups are slightly tilted on the inside. This is a clever design choice by Sennheiser, the tilt make sure that G4ME ONE completely covers your ears for perfect sound isolation.
Moving on to the main aspect, the XXL ear cups have ventilation holes on the outside to let the air pass through keeping it cool inside. It’s like feeling the air flow inside a gaming case. In my experience, this has reduced the heat buildup around my ears by nearly 90% which is amazing. The ear cups are so big that even with my big ears there was plenty of room around for air to pass through. While the left cup hosts the microphone, the right cup houses the volume control knob. This is a very nice feature considering for gamers. This provides an easy way to adjust the volume during an intense match without the hassle of finding the in-line volume controls on long wires.
Lastly, the extra-long 3m braided cable has two connectors at the end, one for the stereo sound and other for the microphone. It’s time to put this beauty through our range of tests.
