Microsoft got a head start at E3 to reveal the launch date and price of Xbox One but Sony made their come back with a bang. Starting off with a simple instructional video on used PlayStation games, it must have frustrated a lot of Microsoft employees. For the big reveal, the company revealed its next-gen, PlayStation 4 console along with its price and release date.
Sony made the curvy PlayStation 3 design obsolete when they first lifted the curtain off from next-gen PlayStation 4 console. Its much like the Xbox One with a square like shape and cutting-edge design. According to the company, the internal hardware of the console is designed in such a way to keep the body as slim and light as possible. To be honest, it reminds of PlayStation 2’s design not that I didn’t like it but its kind of old school. The console is divided into four slots with the optical drive, power buttons, power indicators and vent between the four sections. The console’s color is Jet Black and the indicator light glows blue when the console is turned on.
It measures 275 x 53 x 305 mm and weighs 2.8 Kg. PS4 houses two USB 3.0 ports in the front while the back I/O consists of an HDMI port, Optical Audio Out, AUX (PlayStation Eye), Power and Ethernet port. The future is here so just like the Xbox One, PS4 does not supports any video output other than HDMI.
Sony has priced PlayStation 4 at $399 which includes one PS4 console, one Dual Shock 4 controller, one mono headset, a USB cable and an HDMI cable. Every PlayStation 4 console comes with a 500GB internal hard drive. PlayStation Eye is not included in the package but can be purchased separately for $59 and additional Dual Shock 4 controllers will cost $59 each. Both consoles are priced competitively with Xbox One on the higher side since Kinect comes bundled with the console and its a compulsory part of the package.
Sony states that sharing PlayStation 4 games is as easy it always has been, secondly users will not require an constant internet connection to play single player games. These things will give an edge to PlayStation 4 over Xbox One but only time will tell which console dominates the market. PlayStation 4 will be available this holiday season in North America, Sony is already accepting pre-orders.
