Windows 10 is now the most used OS by gamers on Steam

It seems like Microsoft’s aggressive Windows 10 upgrading campaign is actually paying off as the latest Steam Hardware & Software survey (June 2016) reveals that about 45% of the total gamers on Steam are now running the 64-bit version of Windows 10. Second most used OS in Windows 7 64-bit at 30.61%.

Another interesting to note is that only Windows 10 noticed an increase in usage compared to the previous survey while all the other versions of Windows saw a decrease. Furthermore, usage of Windows 7 64-bit alone is higher than all the versions of Windows 8 and 8.1 combined which goes on to show how bad the Windows 8/8.1 are.

A quick look at the numbers of primary display resolution reveals that the usage of 1920 by 1080 displays are still the highest but its decreasing, while the usage of 2560 by 1080 and 2560 by 1440 displays is increasing.

On the hardware side, Intel is still largely dominating the CPU side while NVIDIA is leading the GPU side. About 50% of the total Mac users are using MacBook Pro for gaming. Virtual Reality headset usage has also seen some dramatic shifts. Of all the users having VR headsets, HTC Vive is the most popular one at 66% with Oculus Rift at a distant second with 27.75%. A couple of months ago, the Oculus headsets were most used ones.
